Name: Rizhao, with Chinese meaning ¡°the light illuminates first at the beginning of the sunrise¡± was first erected as Rizhao Local Town in the year of 1087. In the year of 1184, it developed into Rizhao County and later in the year of 1985 became Rizhao City. Since the year of 1989, it has been named after Rizhao City with dominating districts. 
Location: Rizhao, in the middle of the China coastland, lies in the south of Shandong Peninsula adjacent to Tsingtao city to the north and Lian Yungang city to the south. Japan and South Korea are at a distance from Rizhao only cross the China Yellow Sea. 
Districts: Now Rizhao governs Donggang District, Lanshan District, Juxian County, Wulian Couty, Rizhao Economic Development Zone and Shanhaitian Tourist Holiday Area. 
Area: Rizhao city covers the area of 5310 square kilometers, including the layout downtown area 294 square kilometers. 
Population: By the end of 2005, the total population of the whole city reached 2,817,000 with 400,000 population in downtown area. 
Climate: The annual temperature is 12.7 Celsius degrees, the rainfall 870 millimeters, and the humidity 72%. 
    Rizhao city enjoys the reputation of Top Tourist City of China, Advanced City of the National Forestation Garden, State-leveled Clean City, Modeling City of National Environment Protection, National Sustainable Development Experimental Area, Ecological Modeling Pilot Area, National Recycle Economy Modeling Pilot Area and Glamour City of China on CCTV (China Central Television) in the year of 2004.
